Online bidding opens at 8:00 AM on Friday June 16 and closes at the live auction on Saturday June 17.

Is the Auto Auction open to the public or only to dealers?

This is a public auto auction open to the general public and to dealers. You do not need a dealer’s license to buy vehicles at this auction.

Can I sell my vehicle at the auction?

Yes – we are accepting consignments from the public and from dealers. Please see our seller FAQ for more information.

Where is the auction and When is the auction?

The auction will be held at the Mountain Valley Motors, LLC service center located at 120 Leray Circle, Harrisonburg VA 22801. We are conveniently located just off I-81 at exit 243. The auction will be held Saturday June 17, 2017 beginning at 10:00 AM. Please come early to inspect the vehicles and register to bid. We will open at 8:00 AM for bidder registration and pre inspection. We will also be open for pre-purchase inspections on Friday June 16 from 8 AM to 5 PM.

Can I bid online?

Yes! We have online bidding directly on our website at the auction listing page or you can download our mobile app and bid from your phone or tablet.  Links are available on the auction listing page.  Online bidding will begin on preview day and close at the live auction.  You can also bid in real time during the live auction.  Live video will broadcast directly on the app.

What forms of payment are accepted?

We will accept cash, cashiers/certified bank check, or credit card for payment. Credit cards will not be accepted for amounts over $5,000. If you are paying with a bank check/certified check, the vehicle will not be released until we can confirm with the bank that the check is good.

When do I need to pay for the vehicle I buy?

A non-refundable deposit of 20% of the vehicle purchase price is due the day of sale by either cash or credit card. The remainder is due by close of business on the following business day. We will not release any vehicles until payment has been made in full.

Is financing available for vehicles I buy at the auction?

We do not provide any financing for vehicles purchased at the auction. If you need financing, we recommend that you check with your bank or credit union. Please have all financing pre-approved before you bid on a vehicle. If you buy a vehicle and then cannot get it financed, you will forfeit your 20% deposit.

Is there a bidder or buyer fee?

The auction is free to attend and there is no fee to register as a bidder. There will be a buyer’s premium charged for every vehicle purchased through the auction. The buyer’s premium is 10% of the bid price with a minimum of $50 and a maximum of $500. If you wish to use a credit card to pay your deposit or for your purchase, there will be an additional 3% fee for all amounts paid via credit card. Remember credit cards cannot be used for amounts over $5,000.

What do I need to bring with me in order to register as a bidder?

In order to register to bid you must be at least 18 years of age and provide your valid driver’s license, current address, telephone number, and email address if you have one. If the vehicle you purchase will be titled in more than just your name, we will need the driver’s license for any other person’s whose names will be on the title.

If I am buying vehicles for my company or dealership what do I need in order to register as a bidder?

If you wish to title the vehicle you purchase in the name of your company you must still provide us with a valid driver’s license as well as the name and address of your company along with the DMV customer number for your company. If you are dealer, please bring a copy of your dealer license.

How will the transfer of title be handled and what about permanent plates?

We are able to process the title and issue permanent plates so that you will not need to go the DMV, but this will need to be done at our sales location in Dayton during normal business hours. If you would like us to handle the title and tags for you, please let us know on the day of the sale. Also we will need to collect the sales tax, title fees, and tag fees. Sales tax for vehicles is currently 4.15%, Title fee is $10, Online processing fee is $10 and tags vary from $40.75 and up for one year’s registration depending on the weight and type of tag.

When will titles be available if I want to do the DMV work myself?

Titles will normally be available within 1-2 business days after the auction. We guarantee all titles to be available no later than 30 days after the auction. In any case, we will not issue or release titles until payment has been made in full.

How long do I have to remove the vehicle from the auction site?

All vehicles must be paid for and picked up before close of business on the first business day after the auction. There will be a storage fee charged after the first business day and the auction company will not be liable for any damage to the vehicle after it is sold. If a vehicle is not picked up within 7 days and other arrangements have not been made, we reserve the right to resell the vehicle at our discretion.

Where do these vehicles come from?

Vehicles being sold at the auction come from the general public who consign their vehicles to us as well as from other dealerships who bring us their aged inventory, trade-ins, or repossessions. Some vehicles might come from financial institutions, charities, or leasing companies.

Is a vehicle history report available for these vehicles?

AutoCheck vehicle history reports are available to prospective purchasers for $10 per vehicle if you wish to purchase them.

Are any of these vehicles salvage, flood, or rebuilt title vehicles?

We will not sell salvage, flood, or rebuilt title vehicles unless full disclosure and announcements are made about those vehicles both before the sale and at the time the vehicle crosses the auction block.

Are the vehicles being sold Virginia State Inspected?

All vehicles will have either a new Virginia State inspection or recent rejection sticker with a list of the areas that failed. Every vehicle we sell at the auction must be presented for inspection before we can sell it. The vehicle does not have to pass Virginia State inspection in order for us to sell it, but if it doesn’t pass, it must be issued a rejection sticker and we must present all potential buyers with the copy of the inspection report showing what needs to be repaired in order to bring the vehicle into compliance with Virginia State safety inspection. If you buy a vehicle with a rejection sticker you will be required to sign a waiver acknowledging that you are aware that the vehicle does not have a valid Virginia State inspection and cannot be legally driven on the highways of Virginia until it is repaired and re-inspected.

What happens if I don’t like the vehicle after I buy it or I find that it has problems?

All vehicles at the auction are being sold as-is where is with no warranty expressed or implied. It is the sole responsibility of the bidder/buyer to inspect and research any vehicle at the auction prior to placing a bid. Once the hammer is dropped and the auctioneer says sold, it is your vehicle. We will not allow test drives of the vehicles before or after the auction but you are welcome to start the vehicles and listen to them run and check out vehicle accessories and equipment. We also highly recommend that you bring your own mechanic to check out the vehicles on the preview days or auction day. We will announce any major issues that we are aware of, but we will not guarantee or warranty the condition of any vehicle. The only thing we will guarantee is that you will receive a good title to the vehicle within 30 days or less.

These are all used vehicles and some of these vehicles will require minor or major repairs and maintenance. Please do not bid on any vehicles if you are not prepared to deal with those issues.
